Water bears in space

One of the most exciting animals we know is the tardigrade, known colloquially as water bears or moss piglets. A phylum of water-dwelling eight-legged segmented micro-animals with over 1000 known species. These are funny little guys who, for many species, look like gummy bears. Water bears  can survive the most extreme conditions. They can withstand being cooled down in liquid nitrogen for decades, total desiccation, radioactivity and empty space. Right now there is a collection of water bears on the dark side of the moon.

Jens Degett talked with Nadja Møbjerg from the Department of Biology at the University of Copenhagen about these little creatures (in Danish).
